Juarez Task Force Burns Tons Of Seized Marijuana

CIUDAD JUAREZ, Mexico — Civilian and military authorities held a ceremony in Juarez Tuesday to burn nearly 18 metric tons of marijuana and 27 kilograms of cocaine worth an estimated $475 million pesos, according to officials with Joint Operation Chihuahua, a law enforcement task force set up to fight drug trafficking.

In the first year of Joint Operation Chihuahua, officials said that 98 metric tons of marijuana, 39 kilograms of cocaine, 657 high-caliber weapons and 872 vehicles have been seized. Law enforcement officers also arrested 1,478 Mexican nationals.
