Child Support Evaders Surrender To Authorities
EL PASO — A local man who allegedly owes the state more than $18,000 in child support pay surrendered to authorities after he was placed on the state attorney general’s list of the “Top Ten Most Wanted Child Support Evaders.”
According to Attorney General Greg Abbott’s office, Jose Avalosowes $18,769 for the support of one of his children. Hesurrendered Monday and was booked into the El Paso County Jail.
In1999, a court ordered Avalos to make monthly child support payments of $150 for the care and support of the child, according to Abbott’s office. By August 2005,Avalos allegedlyowed more than $10,000 and was placed on probation.
An arrest warrant was issuedfor his arrest after hefailed to appear at a probation revocation hearing.
A total of 94 evaders have been arrested or located since Attorney General took office in December 2002, according to a news release from his office.
