More Than 600K In Pot Off The Streets After Morning Bust
EL PASO — Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers seizedmore than800 pounds of marijuana in a commercial shipment; the second largepot seizure in last two days, according to agency officials.
The bust was made at the Bridge of the Americas commercial facility shortly after ten Friday morning. Officials said agents discovered about 770 pounds of pot inside a 1986 GMC box truck with an estimated street value of more than $600,000.
“The seizure activity the last two days reflects the vigilance and attention to detail by CBP officers at the Port of El Paso,” said William Molaski, theU. S. Customs and Border Protection, El Paso Port Director. “More than two tons of marijuana did not make its destination because of the outstanding work of CBP officers on the front lines.”
The truck entered the facility from Mexico and the driver only declared spools of nylon rope to the CBP officer, who then referred the truck to the dock for further examination.
Afterofficer conducted asearch of the merchandise, theydiscovered that the spools were hollowed out and filled with marijuana bundles, officials said.The officers thenremoved 456 marijuana-filled packages from the merchandise.
Agency officials said no arrests were madebecause theinvestigation is still ongoing.
