East El Paso Vehicle Crash Sends Two To The Hospital

A vehicle crash in East El Paso sent an elderly man and an police officer to the hospital Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, 73-year-old Alberto Carrasco was driving a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck south on Joe Battle around 4:55pm.

When he entered the intersection of Joe Battle and Pellicano, his truck collided with a police car, a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by El Paso Police Officer Heraclio Herrera.

At the time of the collision, Officer Herrera had his lights and siren turned on, according to police. The front of the police car hit the left side of Carrasco’s truck.

Authorities said the investigation revealed Carrasco entered the intersection when the traffic light was red.

Paramedics transported Carrasco to Thomason Hospital with hip and rib pain as well as a laceration to his forehead.

Herrera was also taken to Thomason, where he was treated for chest pain and later released.

At this time, police do not know if speed was a factor in the crash.
