Michael Jackson Fan Organizes Tribute Party At Club 101
EL PASO, Texas — Since his death, Michael Jackson fans have been dealing with their grief in many ways, including attending and organizing tribute parties.
As the world continues to mourn the king of pop, tributes of all forms are going on all over the world. Tuesday night El Paso fans said their good-bye at Club 101.
“This is when I met Mrs. Jackson, this is his mom,” said Rebecca Reza.
Reza says she first became a Michael Jackson fanatic early on.
“The first memory I have is watching Billie Jean.”
Reza helped start the Michael Jackson King of Pop Fanatics– a fan club that brought her up close with the mega star. “That’s Rebbie, that’s his oldest sister.”
Even though they never met, “before he moved to Neverland he had this as a candy shop. It was right adjacent to the garage where he had the recording studio.”
Reza says she was even invited to have dinner at the Jackson family home after spending weeks supporting Michael at his first molestation trial.
That’s the same home that today is surrounded by media.
“It was an amazing afternoon, we had dinner and then after that we were like OK, we’re going to leave, we don’t want to intrude, and she invited us to stay and play UNO. We played UNO the rest of the afternoon and Jermaine came home with some of the grandchildren and we got to meet him and talk with him for a few minutes.”
One boy at the party even showed off his dance moves inspired by Jackson. “I kind of dance like him.”
Reza says a tribute party is the least she could do for a talent that won’t soon be forgotten, and who will offer memories to so many.
” ‘Off the Wall’ was one of my son’s favorite music, I had to rock him to that music. He wouldn’t fall asleep unless he was listening to that music,” said Margarita Reza.
