Help For Homeless Veterans In New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.(AP) – Dozens of homeless veterans in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Las Cruces are slated to receive public housing vouchers from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Housing authorities in the three New Mexico cities will help administer a total of 105 vouchers.

HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan says numerous men and women voluntarily leave their families and put their lives on the line to ensure that their fellow Americans live safely. She said the vouchers will offer veterans a permanent home.

HUD allocates the vouchers to public housing agencies across the country that are specifically targeted to homeless veterans based on several factors, including the number of reported homeless veterans and the proximity of a local Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
