UPDATE: 16-Year-Old Arrested In Connection With Cartel Murder
EL PASO, Texas — A fourth person has been charged in the murder of Jose Daniel Gonzalez Galeana, a cartel member and government informant who was shot to death in front of his East El Paso home.
A 16-year-old male was taken into custody and faces one count of capital murder, El Paso police said. The suspect’s name was not released due to his age.
The suspect was “part of the surveillance and reconnaissance team” that followed the victim froma relative’s home near Canutillo to his own Eastside home on the nightof the murder, El Paso police spokesman Chris Mears said. Mears said the teenager was paid for his involvement.
At a hearing Thursday, a judge decided against releasing the teenager to his parents. The suspect will stay in the juvenile detention center until another hearing or trial is held.
Police said they continue to investigate and more arrests are possible.
Three suspects were arrested earlier this week in connection with Gonzalez Galeana’s murder, including two teenagers. One of the suspects, 18-year-old Michael Jackson Apodaca, is a Fort Bliss soldier. According to court documents, Apodaca is accused of being the shooter.
Another teen charged in the murder, 17-year-old Christopher Duran, allegedly drovea getaway car.
Police said Tuesday the alleged organizer of the hit, 30-year-old Ruben Rodriguez Dorado, was also a member of the “Compania” cartel as well as an informant for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.Rodriguez Dorado allegedlyadmitted to hiring three people to carry out the murder.
Police are also seeking a fifth suspect, 33-year-old Jesus Aguayo Salas, who they believe told Rodriguez Dorado to organize the hit.
