Shooting Kills 8 Revelers In Mexican Coastal Town
CULIACAN, Sinaloa (AP) – Authorities say gunmen open fire on a crowd partying at a seaside boulevard, killing eight people in northwestern Mexico.
Prosecutors’ spokesman Martin Robles says a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl are among the victims of the shooting Saturday night in Navolato, a coastal town in Sinaloa state.
Robles said Sunday that unknown gunmen fired on the crowd with AK-47 rifles. Police had no information on a possible motive.
The boulevard is a popular weekend gathering place for young people in Navolato.
Sinaloa, a state straddling Mexico’s northern Pacific coast, has long been a drug trafficking hotspot and a stronghold for the Sinaloa cartel.
