HUD: El Paso Public Housing To Receive Grant

The Housing Authority of El Paso’s Paisano development will receive a grant of over $8.2 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to build “green” public housing that conserves energy.

The goal of the project is also to reduce the cost of public housing and to create “green” jobs. El Paso was the only Texas recipient of the grant, which is part of $300 million intended for 36 public housing authorities across the country.

The grant money can be used for renewable energy resources, water conservation through the use of irrigation and efficient appliances, and water manage techniques that capture, retain and/or harvest rainfall.
