Alleged Barrio Azteca Leader On FBI’s Most Wanted List

EL PASO, Texas — The alleged leader of the Barrio Azteca gang in Juarez is now on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list, FBI officials announced Tuesday.

Eduardo Ravelo is charged with a variety of crimes, including racketeering, money laundering, and possession with intent to distribute heroin and cocaine, officials said.

Although he has not been charged with murder, the FBI believes Ravelo and his gang members are hit men for the Juarez cartel, one of the cartels involved in the drug war in Juarez, and are responsible for multiple homicides.

Barrio Azteca has about 600 members, many of whom are in U.S. and Mexican prisons.

Ravelo, also known as “Tablas,” is believed to be in his mid-40s. He is 5-feet-9-inches tall and weighs between 150 and 180 pounds. He has a scar on his face and tattoos on his chest, abdomen, and back, although authorities believe he may have had plastic surgery and even altered his fingerprints. Ravelo is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

“From everything our intelligence sources tell us, Ravelo is a ruthless killer who has absolutely no respect for human life,”FBI special agent Samantha Mikeska said in a news release.

The FBI is offering up to $100,000 for information leading directly to Ravelo’s arrest.
