Kristine Rivers
Kristine began her career in TV news at the age of 18 when shewas hiredat KOMU in Columbia, Missouri. She started as an editor, but in the four years with the station she also worked as a reporter, anchor and producer. After trying everything out, she fell in love with producing. While working at the station, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism and a second in History from the University of Missouri. She is forever indebted to her mentors and fellow students at Mizzou who taught her a lot about news and even more about teamwork. During her time in Columbia she also landed an internship at a production company in London, England. Her flat was small and crowded, but it was worth it! Not only did she learn a lot about what it takes to put on a television show, but she made many friends and saw places she had only read about in her history classes.
After graduating from Mizzou, she headed to the Southwest where she accepted a producing job at KOAT in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She started producing their morning show, which won her a New Mexico Broadcasters Association award for best morning newscast.During her timeatKOATshe alsoproduced the 6 o’clock newscast, 10 o’clock newscast and field produced. While in Albuquerque, she met a soldier from El Paso who would forever change the course of her life.
Kristine had planned on heading home to Kansas City, Missouri, but after meeting Captain Christopher Rivers, she happily moved to El Paso where he was stationed at Fort Bliss. In March of 2008, she became Web Director at KVIA and a few months later took on the role of Executive Producer. Kristine and her husband were married in November ’08 and Chris deployed two months later. You can read her viewpoints on dealing with a deployment on ABC-7’s Troop Support page.
Kristine is proud to be a member of the El Paso community, Fort Bliss family and ABC-7 Team. You can e-mail Kristine at kristinel@kvia.com.
