Sooner Magic“Sooner Magic” is a term that was born in 1976 in Lincoln, Neb. when Oklahoma was trailing Nebraska 17-7 in the fourth quarter.

Oklahoma continued to try for the comeback win with three minutes remaining and moving the ball.

Oklahoma scored the winning touchdown with 30 seconds remaining.

Sooner Magic would return several times over the years, both with comeback wins and holding onto leads over their opponents.

Sooner SchoonerThe Sooner Schooner is a conestoga, commonly referred to as a covered wagon, reminiscent of the mode of travel used by pioneers who settled Oklahoma Territory.

Marching white ponies named Boomer and Sooner pull the contestoga across Owen Field after every OU score.

The Schooner was introduced in 1964 andbecome the official mascotof theOklahoma Sooners in 1980.

Arthur M. Alden, a student in history and physiology, wrote the lyrics to the school’s fight song “Boomer Sooner” in 1905.

He borrowed the tune from Yale University’s ‘Boola Boola’ but improvised the lyrics. Listen to this fight song and the school’s other fight songs here.
