150 Acres Of Airport Land Ready For Development

By ABC-7 Reporter Celina Avila

El Paso, Texas – The airport and the city’s Economic Development Department have some prime real estate they say will help El Paso grow into the future – and it’s ready for development.

The 150 acres are on Butterfield Trail, off of Global Reach and George Perry Boulevard.

It’s surrounded by Fort Bliss, the airport and the new Butterfield golf course.

“The location is a prime location for several reasons,” said El Paso International Airport, Director of Aviation, Monica Lombraña.

It has easy access to the new 601 Interstate, the El Paso International Airport and Fort Bliss.

“If they’re going to do retail to take advantage of the fact that it’s an entrance into Fort Bliss,” said Lombraña.

City officials hope it will soon become a state-of-the-art, upscale technology park, but first it needs to be built.

“We are looking for a master developer, ” Lombraña said.

The land is set for development and then it can be leased to help recruit high-tech business.

“We’re focusing on defense contracting or the bio-medical field,” said Lombraña.

The land is part of a 7,000 acre master plan on airport property.

The infrastructure, usually the most expensive part of a development project is already there, including new streets, underground utilities, and tax incentives for the developer from the city.

“If somebody wanted to come in and take the 150 acres, we’re ready,” said Lombraña.

City officials say the economic impact could be great because the high quality development could bring a lot of jobs and new industry to the area.
