Don Haskins’ Son Completes Long Golfing Journey

Burdened by expectations of El Pasoans and those of his father, the late Don Haskins, 51-year-old Steve Haskins struggled to be successful in golf.

He never made it to the PGA despite reaching the finals in PGA qualifying school 11 times.

Haskins, who still calls El Paso home, gave up golf in 2005 to work at a staffing company, but he got the itch for the game again.

Last fall, he qualified for the Champions Tour, a golf tour for those 50 and older.

He will make his rookie debut at this week’s The ACE Group Classic at The Quarry in North Naples, Fla.
