Las Cruces Man Charged With Improper Relationship With Juvenile

A 35-year-old man alleged to be having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl has been arrested, Las Cruces Police said on Tuesday.

Ernest B. Gonzales, of the 5800 block of Stern Drive in Las Cruces, was arrested Monday morning and is charged with one fourth-degree felony count of criminal sexual penetration of a minor. Gonzales was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.

Gonzales may have been having a relationship with the girl since she was 12 years old., police officials said.On Feb. 14, 2010, detectives learned that Gonzales went to the girl’s home while her parents were out.

At around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, the girl’s parents returned home and found Gonzales leaving their residence. The girl’s parents called police and the investigation began.

Police are continuing their investigation and further charges against Gonzales are possible.
