Police: Man Tried To Make Girl, 13, Get Into His Car
A man accused of trying to make a 13-year-old girl get inside his car was found to be in possession of pornographic material and condoms after he was arrested, according to officials with the Las Cruces Police Department.
Joshua Chavez, 32, of the 1500 block of Corbett Avenue, is facing charges of Attempted Kidnapping and Enticement Of A Child.
According to police officials, a 13-year-old girl told her father that a man driving a gray car pulled up to her and demanded that she get into his car. This allegedly happened while the girl was walking home with her 4-year-old brother near La Vida Nueva Park at about 5:30 Thursday afternoon, according to officials.
The girl was scared and ran home with her brother to tell her father what had happened. At that time, the father saw a gray car pass in front of his home and recognized the driver. He believed it was the same man that kept looking at his children while they were playing in his front yard during the weekend, according to police officials.
The father then got into his car a drove around looking for the gray car. He would later tell police that when he located the gray car, the driver was talking to another teenage girl, according to police officials.
Police were called out to the scene and later located the gray car at a Pic Quik convenience store. The driver was identified as Chavez. When officers searched his car, they found pornographic materials and condoms in the front seat, police officials said.
Police officers booked Chavez into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
