Man Charged with 3rd DWI, Nearly Collides With Police Officer

Police charged a man with his third DWI offense after he almost collided with a police officer.

Fernando Valles, 58, of the 200 block of California, has already been convicted of DWI twice before, according to police officials.

Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, Valles drove onto oncoming traffic on the 3000 block of Alameda near the Chamizal, according to police. Valles apparently drove onto the path of a police officer but the collision was avoided when the officer drove out of the way, police added.

The officer noticed Valles kept driving on Alameda and narrowly missed some parked cars. Valles then hit a curb and the police officer managed to stop him, police officials said.

Valles was also charged with Evading Arrest. The third DWI offense is a felony in the state of Texas, police said.
