Man Sentenced In Negligent Homicide Case

A man found guilty of criminal negligent homicide three years ago was sentenced to 10 years in jail Tuesday.

In 2007, the defendant, Gerardo Salcido, was found guilty of criminal negligent homicide in the killing of Matthew Cubillos, but a jury was unable to determine a proper sentence.

His sentence was pending in court for a re-trial on the punishment. On Tuesday, prosecutors reached a plea agreement with Salcido where he agreed to the maximum punishment of ten years in prison.

In addition, he pled guilty to two additional charges: Tampering or Fabricating Evidence with a deadly weapon and Unlawful Carrying a Weapon on Premises Licensed for Alcoholic Beverages, with a deadly weapon.

The new charges were a result of the defendant’s testimony in the original murder case. Each additional charge carried a punishment of two to 10 years. The defendant pled guilty to 10 years on each new case and was sentenced to 10 years on those cases as well. All three 10 year sentences will run concurrently.
