MediaNews Group Names New Publisher At El Paso Times
The El Paso Times is under new leadership with today’s retirement of publisher Ray Stafford.
Stafford had been the newspaper’s publisher since 2006. His replacement, Sergio Salinas, starts today.
Salinas also been named president and chief executive officer of the Texas-New Mexico Newspaper Partnership, according to a report on the Times’ Website. The partnership operates seven newspapers in New Mexico.
Salinas has more than 25 years of experience in newspapers, including a stint at the El Paso Times from 1982-’83 as the assistant circulation director. He has also held management positions at the Dallas Morning News and at the San Antonio Express-News.
Salinas retired from the newspaper business in 2006 to start a consulting firm, Salinas & Associates. The firm’s goal was to help companies solve their media and marketing concerns, according to a 2006 San Antonio Express-News story on Salinas’ retirement from the newspaper.
Salinas said in the 2006 San Antonio Express-News article that he was looking forward to stepping away from day-to-day management of a single entity.
?I have seen the media and marketing landscape evolve at a rapid pace these past 10-plus years and am finally in a position to step away from the day-to-day management of a single entity and focus my energies instead on helping others navigate their way through the accelerated change taking place all around us,? Salinas said in the 2006 article. ?I have been very blessed throughout my career and am excited about the opportunity to be an objective voice, helping others find answers to some very challenging questions.?
