Barraza’s Brother Charged With Intimidating Prosecutor
John William Barraza, brother of suspended and convicted state judge Manuel “Manny” Barraza, has been charged with intimidating a federal employee.
The misdemeanor charge was announced at John Barraza’s court appearance on Friday afternoon. He faces up to one year in prison, a $100,000 fine, plus a year of probation. His bond is $5,000.
John Barraza was given no travel restrictions. He was told not to have any contact with alleged victim, a man.
John Barraza’s attorney brought up in court that the victim’s child and John Barraza’s child go to the same school.
Thursday afternoon, U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo sentenced Manny Barraza to five years in federal prison in connection with a bribery scheme. According to the criminal complaint, as the assistant U.S. Attorney made his way to the courtroom prior to the sentencing hearing, John Barraza approached the prosecutor and verbally threatened him, according to U.S. Marshals’ officials.
Assistant Chief Deputy Gerardo Payan said, “any threat made against a prosecutor or members of the judiciary is taken seriously by the U.S. Marshals Service and will be investigated to the fullest extent.”
