‘Freedom Bus’ Picks up El Pasoans On Way to Arizona
They came by the busload.
Demonstrators from Dallas and Odessa protesting Arizona’s new immigration law stopped in El Paso Thursday evening to pick up a few of their Sun City friends.
Attorney Domingo Garcia, President of the Dallas League of Latin American Citizens, or LULAC, organized the “freedom ride.”
Garcia is paying for the charter bus and hotel rooms for everyone on board.
“An injustice against one is an injustice against all,” he told ABC-7. “If you have a conscience, you have to stand up for those who are defenseless.”
Armed with signs, the group plans to protest outside the sheriff’s office in Phoenix. They say they also plan to ask Frito Lay to drop its sponsorship of the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
The Major League All-Star Game is already considering canceling on Arizona, yet a new poll shows most Americans – nationwide – may actually be behind the controversial bill.
The Pew Research Center asked 994 adults around the country for their opinion. Only 32% said they oppose Arizona’s law.
The ‘Freedom Bus’ has room for 50 El Pasoans. It’s scheduled to leave the Sun City at 7:30 Friday morning.
