Six Men Dead Following Juarez Ambush
An ambush along the Porvenir Highway in Juarez left six men dead Friday.
ABC-7’s news partners at XHIJ Channel 44 say gunmen killed the men in the Loma Blanca neighborhood in east Juarez. The men were riding in a van when they were attacked; the van then crashed into a kindergarten school.
No children were hurt by the crash.
The killings come one day after someone killed a mayoral candidate in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. President Felipe Calderon says the murder was cartel related.
Mario Guajardo was a member of Calderon’s Conservative National Action Party (PAN), and was running for mayor in the town of Valle Hermoso – 30 miles south of Brownsville – when he was shot in the offices of his agricultural supply company.
Guajardo had reportedly received death threats.
