Socorro’s New Mayor To Be Sworn In Tonight After Recount

After a recount, the result remains the same in the Socorro mayoral election.

The El Paso County Elections Department confirmed Willie Gandara Sr.’s victory over incumbent mayor Trini Lopez following a recount on Thursday. Gandara will be sworn in at tonight’s Socorro City Council meeting.

Last Friday, just as Gandara was about to be sworn in, Lopez requested a recount of the votes. According to election officials, the recount affirmed the initial election results, which showed Gandara received 651 votes to Lopez’s 633.
