Watch Las Cruces High School Graduations Online

LAS CRUCES — For the first time in the history of the Las Cruces Public Schools, the graduation ceremonies for the district’s three largest high schools will be webcast over the Internet and televised on the City’s cable access channel.

Las Cruces High, Oate High, and Mayfield High will hold commencement ceremonies on Saturday (May 22) at NMSU’s Pan American Center at the following times: LCHS – 9:00 a.m.; OHS – 1:00 p.m.; MHS – 5:00 p.m.

All three ceremonies will be webcast and telecast, said District Communications Director Jo Galvn.

The graduations will be available on the Internet at www.lcps.tv and on CLC-TV, Comcast cable channel 20. San Andres High School’s graduation is set for tomorrow (Friday, May 21) at 7:00 p.m. at the Oate High Performing Arts Center. It will not be webcast this year, she said.

“Having the large ceremonies online and on TV will let a lot more people watch from the comfort of their living rooms,” Galvn said. “We also know there are many military families that will now be able to see these important events from wherever they are in the world – graduations are now global.”

This is the first year LCPS will use the school district’s television station, LCPS-TV, the district’s website, www.lcps.tv and the City of Las Cruces access channel, CLC-TV, to webcast and telecast the event that draws thousands of parents and families to the Pan Am Center each May.

“Another benefit to this first-time effort is the hands-on experience for the students who will be helping to make the webcast and telecast possible,” Galvn said. “Media students from Mayfield, Oate and San Andres will man the cameras and take a role in this live production.”

Galvan said although the district doesn’t anticipate a smaller crowd at the Pan Am, she does expect the viewing audience to be substantial and hopes that viewers will send suggestions and comments to the school district regarding the web/telecast.
