Fort Bliss Cemetery Holds Memorial Day Ceremony

People across the country held services Monday for Memorial Day, and here in the Borderland, our country’s veterans were honored at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Dozens attended a solemn ceremony Monday morning, complete with the traditional 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.

With Old Glory waving against the blue sky, families bowed their heads and gathered at gravesites to say thank you to our nation’s fallen heroes.

Robert Arvico attended the ceremony. “We live in a country where we’ve got all our freedoms and those that are laying out here – a lot of them gave their lives for us,” he said, appreciating the heroes’ service and sacrifice.

Soldiers also laid a wreath in honor of the fallen U.S. servicemen and women.
