World Cup Draws El Pasoans To Area Bars Friday Morning

Lots of people headed out to local bars and restaurants to watch the opening game of the 2010 World Cup – at about the time most would be heading to work.

Hundreds packed into places like Hooters and The Brew to catch the soccer action on television.

“I took the day off; I waited 40 years, I’m here for Mexico, and tomorrow the U.S.,” said one fan.

“Vamos a ganar (We’re going to win)”, said another fan.

The opening match featured Mexico and South Africa, which ended in a 1-1 tie.

On Saturday June 12, the U.S. faces England, and you can watch the game right here on ABC-7 at 11:30 a.m.
