Teen Killed In Early Morning SUV Crash

Investigators are looking into whether or not alcohol was to blame in a crash that killed a sixteen-year-old in Dona Ana County early Sunday morning.

The crash happened at 3:30 a.m. on Moongate road on the east mesa. ABC-7 has learned that teen, 16-year-old Robert De Herrera, was the front-seat passenger in a Ford Explorer SUV that lost control. De Herrera lived only blocks from the scene of the crash.

Deputies from the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office said there were five people in the SUV at the time of the crash, and reported the vehicle was on its roof when they arrived at the crash scene. The driver and other passengers had minor injuries.
