SWAT Standoff Ends Peacefully After Cross-town Chase

A man was arrested Thursday morning in a West Side apartment complex after a SWAT situation.

El Paso Police SWAT officers set up around the Sundance Apartment complex in the 7100 block of N. Mesa at 2:30 a.m.

ABC-7 cameras captured video of the man, now identified as 34-year-old John James Peacock, as he was driven asway from the scene in the back of a squad car more than three hours later.

Police say officers saw Peacock leaving the scene of a “smash-and-grab” burglary at a restaurant in the 6800 block of Montana at 1:30 this morning.

Officers chased him and eventually found him at his apartment on the West Side.

But he didn’t want to come out of his apartment, sparking the SWAT standoff. Surrounding residents were evacuated.

No injuries were reported.
