UTEP To Host Regional Rounds Of 2010 Legends Classic
The Gazelle Group announced on Tuesday that El Paso has been selected as one of four regional round sites for the 2010 Legend Classics basketball tournament. Defending Conference USA regular season champion UTEP will take on Mercer (Nov. 14) and Western Carolina (Nov. 20) in the Don Haskins Center.
Other regional round host schools include Georgia Tech, Michigan and Syracuse. Those three teams will join the Miners in the championship rounds at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J., Nov. 26-27.
UTEP’s full 2010-11 non-conference schedule, including game times for the Legends Classic, will be announced later this month.
Individual game ticket prices for UTEP’s Legends Classic home games will be $15 for reserved seats and $25 for floor seats. Season ticket holders have first right-of-refusal on their seats. This is an outside event put on by the Gazelle Group and will not be included in the season ticket package. Donor parking permits will be valid for this event.
The Miners return three starters and eight of their top 10 scorers from last year’s 26-7 squad that finished 15-1 in C-USA play and lost to national runner-up Butler in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Mercer posted a 16-17 record in advancing to the title game of the Atlantic Sun Tournament last year. It was the Bears’ first trip to the league championship game since 1996.
Western Carolina set a Division I school record for wins last season in finishing 22-12. The Catamounts’ 11 Southern Conference wins tied a school record.
Other participating teams in this year’s Legends Classic include Albany, Bowling Green, Detroit, Gardner-Webb, Niagara and William & Mary.
