Police Say Speed, Cell-Phone Use To Blame In June Traffic Fatality
El Paso Police have identified excessive speed and the use of a cell phone were contributing factors in the collision where Antonio Mondragon was killed on June 21.
Investigators have determined that Mondragon was speeding and texting on a cell phone as he drove the south in the 1400 block of McCombs before he drove off the roadway causing his 2008 Mazda 6 to roll over. Investigators are still waiting toxicology results.
Lyzette Duron, a passenger in the vehicle, was wearing a seat belt and was taken to UMC for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No other vehicles or individuals were involved in this single vehicle collision
This was the 33rd traffic fatality of the year.
