13-Month-Old Boy Killed When Thrown From Vehicle

A baby boy was killed during a car wreck and police said the person responsible is his father.

The crash happened Monday night on Holman and El Centro, just a few miles outside of Las Cruces.

Las Cruces Police said 23-year-old Juan Benavidez was drinking and driving when he lost control of the car and flipped twice before hitting a telephone pole.

Juan Benavidez Jr., 13 months old, was thrown from the car and suffered massive fatal head injuries.

Benavidez is looking at two counts of child abuse and a charge of vehicular homicide, according to police officials.
