Dona Ana Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Man Who Allegedly Lied About Being Set On Fire After Bet

Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man who claimed he was set on fire after losing a drinking bet with friends.

Randy Malone, 47, was arrested by Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Deputies on Sunday, July 25, at his residence after Sheriff’s Deputies, were notified by his brothers, of his location.

Sheriff’s Deputies, when they came in contact with Malone, found Malone lying on the couch tending to his injuries; burns, he reported to two different law enforcement agencies as a result of losing a drinking bet.

A Sheriff’s Supervisor, when he observed the seriousness of the burns to Malone’s upper right leg, called the on-call Magistrate Judge, Ken Wingenroth.

Judge Wingenroth allowed Sheriff’s Deputies to serve the Warrant, minus the detention, due to the fact that Malone’s injuries would have first required that he be hospitalized before being allowed to be incarcerated.

Malone was walking with the aid of a “walker.”

Malone will be summons into Court at a later date by the Magistrate Court.

Malone, according to a Sheriff’s Supervisor, was calm and had no reaction when notified about the warrant for his arrest.

Sheriff’s Investigators said they learned from a witness that Malone had placed a lit “crack” pipe in his pocket causing his trousers to set on fire, as well as his right prosthetic leg, on July 5.

Malone was found naked, except for his shoes, on the overpass at Del Rey Boulevard and subsequently transported to a burn unit in Lubbock, Texas.
