El Paso To Be Painted Orange In Honor Of Tim Floyd’s First Game As UTEP Coach
The city of El Paso will be renamed “Miner Orangeville” on Friday, Nov. 12, and the city will be painted orange the week of Nov. 8 in honor of Tim Floyd’s regular season debut as UTEP’s head basketball coach.
The Miners will take on Pacific (23-12 last season) at 7:05 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Don Haskins Center. Approximately 3,400 tickets remain for the game. UTEP hasn’t sold out a home opener since Nov. 29, 1986 versus Oregon State. Tickets for the game may be purchased here.
UTEP athletic department and city officials, in conjunction with local businesses, have joined forces in an aggressive campaign designed to celebrate the return of Floyd, who cut his teeth in coaching as an assistant to the legendary Don Haskins from 1978-86.
A city proclamation has authorized the renaming of El Paso to “Miner Orangeville” on Nov. 12, and the week of Nov. 8 will be known as “Orange-Out Week.”
The following actions will also be taken coinciding with the theme of “Orange-Out Week”: -The Star on the Mountain will be orange for the week of Nov. 8 -Paul Foster will turn the flame on the Blue Flame Building orange and will illuminate the Mills Building and Center Building orange on Nov. 12 -The Plaza Theatre will be illuminated orange on Nov. 12 -City Council members will be wearing orange at their Nov. 9 meeting -The El Paso Times will have an orange nameplate on Nov. 12 as well as an orange insert for fans to take to the game -Howdy’s will be selling 5,000 limited edition Miner Orangeville T-shirts for $5 -Local broadcast media will have their anchors wear orange and color their logos and websites orange -Hope & Anchor (4012 N. Mesa) will be mixing up two special orange drinks — the Minerita and the Miner Bomb — the week of Nov. 8. The Hope & Anchor whales will also glow orange -The exterior lights at the Don Haskins Center will be orange on Nov. 12 -Many local businesses and organizations are having their employees wear orange on Nov. 12 -El Paso Electric will give out 10,000 “Miner Orangeville” static car stickers -The Wells Fargo building will be lit appropriately in UTEP fashion -15-foot thermoplast pickaxes will be placed in the pavement at prominent intersections, including:
Sun Bowl and Mesa Glory Road and Mesa Glory Road and Oregon University and Mesa Sun Bowl and Schuster
A free shuttle to the game will be provided for fans that live on the East side of El Paso courtesy of All Aboard America! Buses will depart from the Jack in the Box on McRae to and from the Don Haskins Center.
Fans who purchase a ticket to the Pacific game will receive free admission to the UTEP women’s basketball regular season opener versus UC Irvine on Nov. 13 at 2:05 p.m.

East Side Shuttle To And From UTEP-Pacific Game: -Buses depart from Jack in the Box (1115 McRae Blvd.) on Friday, Nov. 12 -Pick-up times are every 30 minutes beginning at 5 p.m. with the last pick-up at 7 p.m. -Transportation is free with presentation of UTEP-Pacific game ticket -Fans will receive a wristband good for free admittance to return trip -Buses depart for East side from Don Haskins Center at 9:15 p.m., 9:30 p.m., 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. (pick-up location is UTEP marquee off of Mesa Street)
