C-USA Player Of The Year Culpepper Leads Senior-Laden Miners

Randy Culpepper knows how to get the Miner faithful on their feet and cheering.

He can do it by stringing together several three-point shots or just one thunderous dunk. His amazing hops are known to leave fans in awe by the reigning C-USA Player of the Year.

Culpepper is one of eight seniors on the Miners squad. He comes into the season ranked fourth in UTEP history with 1,664 points and is 15th on the all-time C-USA scoring list. He’s already UTEP’s all-time leader with 252 three-point field goals made out of 719 attempts.

He’s not just an offensive scoring machine. Several of his breakaway dunks come off of steals. He is second in school history with 180 steals.

“It’s exciting with these two exhibition games out of the way,” Culpepper said about excitement for the Pacific game. “All this counts.”

Culpepper said the team still has a lot of work to do switching from one style last year under then coach Tony Barbee to the new style of Tim Floyd. Culpepper said the team will always try it’s hardest to get the win but it helps knowing there’s a sold-out crowd watching them in the season opener.

“(There) can be two people in the gym we still gonna try and do what we have to do to get the W,” Culpepper said. “Knowing that there’s going to be thousands here is a great feeling.”
