Stranded Hikers Found Near McKelligon Canyon

Two hikers ended up in a scary situation Saturday when they ended up stranded in the area above the amphitheater inside McKelligon Canyon.

Fire rescuers said they got the call from the hikers at about 7:30 p.m Saturday.

Rescue crews reached the hikers at about 9:45 p.m. They said they brought the 19-year-old man and 18-year-old woman blankets, coats and food.

Officials explained the two started their hike at about 1 p.m. They believe the hikers got stranded after it got dark and the two couldn’t find the trail back down the mountain.

Emergency crews said the hikers were not hurt, just cold and hungry.

Fire officials remind anyone who plans to hike to be prepared, especially since it can get very cold on the mountain at night.
