Chalk The Block Wins State Award
The Texas Downtown Association (TDA) awarded El Paso Chalk the Block Public Art Festival the annual “Best Promotional Event” award.
The announcement was made during the 2010 Texas Downtown Development and Revitalization Conference held in El Paso in early November. This prestigious “Best Promotional Event” award recognizes excellence in creation and execution of downtown or commercial district promotional event, including festivals. Chalk the Block competed against Yesterfest, held in Bastrop , and the Downtown Tyler ArtWalk, held in Tyler .
“We are proud the Texas Downtown Association acknowledges Chalk the Block as the best Downtown Promotional Event,” said Museums and Cultural Affairs (MCAD) Director, Sean McGlynn. “The event not only increases the quality of life for El Pasoans and its visitors. Additionally, the event creates economic activity for the Downtown business community,’ he added.
About Chalk the Block
The City of El Paso ‘s Public Art Program and the MCAD in partnership with the El Paso Community Foundation, created Chalk the Block to bring visual artists to the Downtown area and create works of art on the city sidewalks. In 2010, more than 20,000 El Pasoans and tourists to descend upon Downtown El Paso to experience works of art, a skate park, an interactive public chalk area, art vendors, live music, two public art elements and performances, great food, chalk art competitions, and much more!
