EPISD: Coronado High School Student Had Gun On Campus
A 14-year-old special needs student at Coronado high School was caught with a gun on campus Wednesday afternoon, according to El Paso Independent School District officials.
EPISD spokeswoman Berenice Zubia said another student thought the 14-year-old might have a gun and alerted school officials, who called EPISD police.
EPISD police officers searched the student and found a handgun. The student is currently being detained but he never pointed the weapon at anyone, Zubia said.
As classes let out for the afternoon, some students had heard about what happened.
One freshman told ABC-7 she learned about when she overheard other students talking during her agriculture class.
However, another student – a senior at Coronado – told our crew it was news to her and added, “The fact that I hadn’t even heard anything about it shows that the security team’s pretty good.”
