Ex-Miami Player Still Despises Notre Dame 20 Years Later
It’s been 20 years since Randal Hill took the field against Notre Dame, but the former University of Miami receiver’s distaste for the Fighting Irish has not abated.
“I don’t care what the University of Miami’s record is, if you have Notre Dame on the schedule, you have to win that game,” Hill told the Palm Beach Post on Sunday afternoon, shortly after it became official that the Hurricanes and Notre Dame will play in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31. “I despise them. On the field, there is nothing that’s acceptable except crushing Notre Dame. And if you’re winning, run up the score.”
The Irish and Hurricanes are playing for the first time since 1990. Hill faced Notre Dame four times as a player from 1987 to 1990, losing twice and winning twice.
“I have a major problem with Notre Dame,” Hill, who works for the Department of Homeland Security, said. “They always thought they were better than us and they had an attitude of ‘Catholics vs. Convicts’ even though our graduation rate was higher than their’s.”
