El Paso Electric: Power Stabilized For Now

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso Electric has stopped implementing rolling outages as of 12:30 Wednesday afternoon. However, officials expect to bring them back again between 5:00 and 10:00 pm. Each outage is expected to last between 30 and 45 minutes. The company has eight local power generators, but all of them are down, due to frigid weather. Right now, the El Paso Electric is drawing power from its plant in Phoenix, and has also been able to purchase electricity from out of town. Until the local generators are repaired, the company is asking all residents, offices and businesses to use as little energy as possible. Customers can minimize the chance power surges will occur by turning off all but essential appliances, lights and other electrical equipment. Also, minimize unnecessary travel, as traffic signals may go out of service, resulting in traffic jams. Stay with ABC-7 and kvia.com for any new information.
