NMSU Cancels Women’s Basketball Game
EL PASO, Texas — Thursday night’s women’s basketball game between Fresno State and New Mexico State has been canceled due to power use restrictions in Las Cruces.
NMSU Atletic Director Dr. McKinley Boston said he understands the need to cut back. “Over the past several days, we have all had to make sacrifices,” NM State athletic director Dr. McKinley Boston said. “Using the power necessary to operate a game and placing the extra stress on the fragile power grid is not prudent when our community is faced with potential power outages at home.”
El Paso Electric has struggled to generate electricity due to freezing temps the past couple of days. All eight of its local power generators are down, leaving the company to rely on power generated out of town. As a result, EPE is asking all schools, businesses, offices, agencies and residents to limit their electricity use.
NMSU has not announced a makeup date for the game with Fresno State. The Aggie women are back in action Saturday night at Louisiana Tech.
