One Week After Freeze, West El Paso Apartment Tenants Still Without Water

After a week without it, Shauntel Manley said she’s tired of worrying about water.

“There’s no way to do dishes,” she told ABC-7. “You can’t clean do laundry, there’s obviously no way to shower.”

Manley said she’s also tired of the apologetic letters from the management at Terrace Hill Apartments in west El Paso.

Last week’s frozen temperatures left the complex with broken water pipes and tenants like Manley very upset. Furthermore, she said she was told residents would not be getting a break on their next water bill.

“They’re not gonna pay us any compensation,” she said. “They (say) that this is an ‘act of God.'”

ABC-7 tried calling the Terrace Hill office Wednesday afternoon. No one answered and when a camera crew arrived at the location, the office was closed for the day at least 20 minutes early.

Our cameras did spot someone from the front office going door to door leaving letters for residents. The woman hid her face and refused to stop for an on-camera interview.

Manley said Terrace Hill opened one vacant apartment with working plumbing for tenants to shower.

But one man told ABC-7 he was tired of waiting and would instead go shower at a relative’s house…in Jurez.
