Construction Begins On Lee Trevino
Orange barrels and barricades will soon line Lee Trevino Dr. once again.
Phase II of the Lee Trevino Drainage Improvement Project is getting under way Monday night. It will stretch from Pellicano Dr. south to just south of James Watt Dr.
Construction is already under way on James Watt. The entrance to the street from Lee Trevino is blocked with wooden barricades. Signs diverting traffic from that area stretch for a block.
The new construction will add a 3/4 mile of a large diameter pipe under Lee Trevino, add box culverts and make improvements to an area known as the Jesuit Basin, which is near a golf driving range on Lee Trevino.
Improvements are needed after Lee Trevino was submerged in stormwater after multiple heavy downpours in the summer of 2006. EPWU stated the project will keep stormwater runoff underground instead of on the street surface.
While crews will be working on the construction from 9 P.M. to 6 A.M., keeping traffic interference to a minimum, drivers will still have to work through lane closures on the southbound lanes of Lee Trevino through the duration of the project.
Crews are expected to complete work in September.
