City To Launch 311 Number To Take Care Of Non-Emergency Calls

The city will set up a 311 service for people to call with any non-emergency, city service question so 911 center won’t be tied up with non-emergency calls. El Paso Council approved yesterday:

311 system will go live on Sept. 1 and have a $1.8 million initial start-up cost, which includes employees, training, etc. There will 50 employees making $10 an hour.

It’s a number people can call to inquire about ANY city service and non-emergency, instead of tying up 911 center.

The city says it is a cost-saving measure and 911 line won’t get flooded with non-emergency calls.

City believes this will eventually save them money – because 911 calls are very expensive .
