Fort Bliss Opens Unique Barracks For Wounded Soldiers

Fort Bliss now has a state-of-the art housing complex for wounded warriors.

The complex was designed to accommodate soldiers who have been injured in battle and who don’t need to be hospitalized, but still require at least six months of constant treatment.

The facility offers 116 suites and 232 beds, and families will be able to stay with the soldiers. All of the units have a full kitchen, wood cabinets, two master bedrooms, a walk-in closet, and a flat screen TV mounted on the wall.

Alan Raggio, himself a Wounded Warrior, compared the new building to a hotel.

“It’s absolutely amazing, how much money they would put in just to help wounded soldiers. Coming from where we are right now to this is 100 times better, the biggest upgrade ever,” he said.

The Warrior Transition Battalion Complex will also features a Family Assitance Center to provide support for soldiers’ loved ones.

“I wish every army facility could have barracks like this,” said Raggio. “It’s all handicapped accessible for us, (for) wheelchair, crutches, and canes and whatnot.”

Construction was funded in large part by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
