Investigators: Fire In Vacant Home ‘Suspicious’
El Paso fire officials said a fire in a vacant home in Northeast El Paso seems to be suspicious.
The blaze broke out shortly before one in the afternoon on the 4900 block of McGregor.
Crews were able to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes. Investigators still don’t know how the blaze got started. They said it caused about $60,000 worth of damage to the home.
No injuries were reported.
Neighbors said the fire department got there quickly, but they still tried to put the fire out with their water hoses before crews arrived.
Diego and Jerry Gutierrez live next door to the vacant home. They said they were concerned the fire would spread to their home and suspect what may have started the blaze.
“When the landlords left, they had a little shed outside…and it had flamable things, they had bottles full of gas, so I guess with the heat it popped and it started the flame”, said Jerry Gutierrez.
