FBI: Man Robs Bank, Drops Money During Pursuit

FBI officials said a man walked into a Lower Valley bank on Saturday morning, told the teller he had a gun and demanded money. In a written statement, FBI officails said 47-year-old Hugo Guzman walked into the Compass Bank located at 7744 North Loop and took off with the money. Guzman never showed the teller a weapon.

An ABC-7 crew on the scene said Guzman had the money in an envelope, when he saw El Paso Police officers and ran off. The officers ran after him and Guzman dropped the envelope and the money on the ground close to the bank. Officers had to pick up the cash.

The FBI said Guzman ran to a nearby residential area and into a home, where he was later arrested. He is being held at the El Paso County Detention Facility and is being charged with one count of Bank Robbery.

The case is being worked by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which includes the El Paso Police Department and El Paso Sheriff’s Department.
