Man Accused Of False Imprisonment
A man had his pregnant ex-girlfriend pinned down when officers forced their way into a home to free her, police said
Shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to call from a 23-year-old woman who claimed her ex-boyfriend was harassing her. When officers arrived at the home, they knocked on the door and called the woman’s cellphone but no one answered. Officers then heard a woman scream for help, police said.
Officers forced their way into the home and found the man holding the woman down in a bedroom, police said. Officers repeatedly ordered the man to let go of the woman, but police say he refused, prompting officers to pull the man off the woman and restrain him.
Andres Vargas, 30, was arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment, a fourth-degree felony.
Police said Vargas might have bitten the woman, who was seven months pregnant, but she appeared to be uninjured.
Vargas was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. His bond was set at $5,000.
