East El Paso Collision Sends 5 To Area Hospital

Five people were injured in an early-morning crash in East El Paso, officials with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred about 3 a.m. near Horizon and Gateway West boulevards.

Special Traffic Investigators were called to the scene and determined that a black Chevrolet Impala was traveling north on Horizon Boulevard and was in the left turn lane turning left onto Gateway West when a white Subaru Impreza traveling south on Horizon Boulevard ran a red light and collided with the other vehicle.

According to sheriff’s deputies, the Subaru was on fire when they arrived at the scene.

The Horizon Police Department assisted deputies with rescuing five people from the Impala. All of the occupants were transported to Del Sol Medical Center, two with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said all three people in the Subaru exited the vehicle safely.

Firefighters from Socorro and Horizon volunteer fire departments were able to contain the car fire withing five minutes.

The driver of the Subaru was arrested on suspicion of intoxication assault.
