Mother Accused Of Shoplifting Leaves Son Behind

Police are calling it an unusual case of shoplifting.

Investigators said a woman and her son were caught trying to steal from a northeast El Paso grocery store.

But there’s a twist.

Police said the mother ran when confronted with shoplifting, leaving her 13-year-old son behind. Despite his age, he ended up in the back of a squad car

It all happened around noon on Saturday at the Albertson’s grocery store on the 9100 Block of Dyer Street. The mother and son were caught allegedly going through the grocery line without paying.

Police said that’s when the woman ran out of the store, leaving her son behind.

ABC-7 was there with cameras rolling when the boy was taken into custody by El Paso police facing charges of theft and put into a patrol unit.

Police are still looking for the mother.
