Lightning Sparks 3,000-Acre Wildfire Near Carlsbad
A lightning-caused wildfire has burned 3,000 acres of grass in rugged and steep area in Tom’s Canyon 15 miles west of Carlsbad.
Crews have not contained any of the Tom’s Canyon Fire so far.
The state forestry department says about 20 firefighters are on the scene. Air tankers along with hand crews are working the fire.
The southwest section of the fire jumped containment lines Monday afternoon and crews worked to protect structures at the nearby Marback ranch.
So far, no structures have been lost.
